I attended Columbia International University in South Carolina from 1992-1998. During the first couple years I was there, Tom O'Brien was a student there as well. While there, he met Ann and they married. A couple weeks ago, Ann and their three children were in a serious car accident. All survived, but Ann has been in a coma with serious injuries since. As I read the daily updates from Tom on this site, I am moved by his love for Ann and his unwavering trust in the Savior during this otherwise despairing time.
Will you also pray for this family? Tom gives specific requests on the site, so if you have a minute, please check it out and pray for them as you are led.
Thank you.
Well, Dad was released from the hospital yesterday. Before he left, he asked the doctor when he could go back to work. He drives a fuel truck for a local oil company and this is the busiest time of the year for them...well, typically it is. This year the weather is a bit atypical, so I don't think they've been as busy as normal. Still, it is very important to my father that he shows up for work. He is well respected at his job and he doesn't want to let his employers down. Which is probably why he never said anything LAST WEEK when he got a little "out of breath" as he pulled the hose from the truck one day. :::sigh::: Both of my parents are this way. Strong work ethic. Strong willed. Nothing gets in the way of them getting to their jobs. My mom could have the flu or be doubled over in pain and still manage to clean 5 houses in one day! This way of thinking eludes me somehow. And I think I'm glad for that. But I'd be lying if I said it didn't worry me that my parents are this way. However, there's not a whole lot more that I can do besides the occasional gentle "warning" accompanied by a prayer that they will have the wisdom to know when it is time to stop for a while and the freedom to be ok with that. Don't get me wrong, my parents are by no means decrepit. They are strong and are going strong. But there's just so much a body can take, ya know?
Anyway, let me step down off my little soapbox.
So, the doctor gave my dad a stress test and determined that he was good enough to be released with no restrictions, which means that he will be back to work the day after Christmas and is already driving. Sooooo, minor heart attack Monday night, two stents inserted Tuesday, and back to work the following week. :::shaking head::: I am simply trusting that this is ok, that the doctor knows what he's doing, and that my dad would say something if it happened to not be ok. I am so grateful that it was not more serious than it was. I am so grateful.
I am also grateful for all your kind words and prayers. Thank you for caring.
